We’re currently looking for an Electronics Design Engineer to join our team!

Ampyx Power is developing an Airborne Wind Energy System (AWES) that can access powerful wind at high altitude using tethered unmanned aircraft.

What are you going to do?

We work in various teams, organized by discipline, such as Flight Algorithms, Electronics, Aircraft Structures Design, Software and Flight Operations. You will be based in The Hague, Netherlands, where you will be joining the AP-3 Electronics team, a group of 5 Electronics engineers. AP-3 is our pre-commercial prototype, a 12m wingspan 150kW demonstrator of our safety architecture and fully automated operational capability.

This year, the verification campaign for AP-3 will start, in this campaign the objective is to demonstrate a certain amount of flight hours, power generation and automatic launch and landing. However, there are still several work packages that need to be completed. Your activities will include:

•The full development life cycle of several electronics items: from concept to implementation, testing, operation and maintenance.

•Collaborating with colleagues from various other disciplines (mechanical, software, algorithm, etc) to designing electronics.

  • •Designing schematics and PCB layouts.
  • Working together with our manufacturing and assembly partners to ensure proper manufacturability.
  • •Documenting your designs.
  • Defining proper mechanical and electrical interfaces to ensure correct integration of your designs in AP-3.
  • Defining validation and verification activities to test your ideas, and designing the test setups required for executing these tests.
  • •Execute root cause analysis of failure and implementing solutions to improve the avionics.

Requirements

What do we need from you to complement the team?

You have a degree in electrical engineering or similar with at least 3 years of experience in designing electronics items.

Furthermore, you:

  • •Have experience developing electronics projects for personal or professional use;
  • Have experience integrating electronics with mechanical interfaces;
  • Know how and why the circuits you design work and what are its trade-offs;
  • Like to learn new skills and techniques;
  • Are a team player;
  • Are proactive and you take ownership;
  • Are comfortable working within structured processes and help improving them;
  • Report in a precise and concise manner;
  • Are good at writing technical documentation;
  • As you will be part of an international team, you are proficient in English (speaking and writing).

Technical skills we are looking for are:

  • •Design of analog and digital electronics;
  • Design of electrical layers for digital protocols like RS-422, CAN bus, Ethernet, SPI, etc.;
  • PCB layout;
  • Use of laboratory equipment like multi-meters, oscilloscopes, electronic loads, etc;
  • Electronics design software, such as Altium Designer or similar.

Not a must-have, but we’d very much welcome the following experiences and skills:

  • •Designing test procedures and test setups;
  • Designing (simple) mechanical parts in Mechanical CAD, working with CAD tools;
  • Designing power electronics systems like motor controllers, power supplies, etc;
  • Designing battery monitoring systems;
  • Knowledge of programming (in C, C++, Python or similar);
  • Knowledge in aerospace or mechanical engineering.
