What are you going to do?

Ampyx Power is going to operate it’s AP-3 12 m wingspan RPAS/UAV in Spain and Ireland in 2021 and 2022. You will however start your carrier in The Netherlands, where you will learn to operate the 5.5 m wing span prototype AP-2 and work on system integration and verification. In your role as Deputy Chief RPAS Pilot you are responsible for the safety of the flight operation and will need to acquire a deep understanding of the aircraft systems, both in hardware, software and processes. You will share your duties with the chief pilot and act as his replacement in his absence.

With your knowledge of AP-2 operations you will mature the operational processes to an AP-3 acceptable level and maintain a pilot training program.

In particular you will be working on:

  • Flight campaigns including logistics, preparation of equipment, updating of all relevant logbooks, test field preparations and defining test objectives and sequence.
  • Maintaining flight operations checklists, procedures, manuals and logging in strong collaboration with flight crew.
  • Act as test director during flight operations, including safety and field management during test campaigns.
  • Maintaining the AP-3 operational documentation.
  • Coordinating the flight operations of AP-3.
  • Incident processing and mitigating measures.Ensuring that Ampyx’s air operations are conducted in compliance with the Act and the Regulations;
  • Maintaining a record of qualifications held by each member of the Flight Crew.
  • Guarantee operational standards are monitored, and the training of pilots is supervised.
  • Guarantee a complete and up-to-date reference library of operational documents as required by the Authority for the class of operations conducted.


As a Deputy Chief Pilot you prefereably have a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Aerospace engineering with 5 years of experience in Aircraft operations. You work efficiently in a team and support your colleagues, you are able to proactively pick tasks and take ownership, and you are willing to take part in flight testing campaigns. You like to learn new skills in case it is required and you contribute to and follow development processes. You are good at writing technical documentation and as you will be member of an international team you are proficient in English.

What do we need from you to complement the team?

Ideally you have:

  • Experience in flight operations as test director, indoor pilot or external pilot
  • Operational experience in an environment where strict safety procedures are in place is a strong advantage.
  • Good understanding of flight dynamics
  • Basic understanding of flight algorithms and software
  • Good fitness such that you will pass the Light Aircraft Pilot License Medical
  • Previous exposure to process based engineering is desired
  • A good command of the English language, both written and spoken. 
  • Social skills to represent Ampyx Power in your capacity as Test Director towards Aviation Authorities and stakeholders local to the test site.
  • Experience in report writing.
